Although they are things of the past, activity LEDs on computer cases can still be useful. However, most modern computer cases don't incorporate them anymore. If you want to know when your hard drive is reading and writing or when there is network activity, you can use addLEDs and have these indicators on your screen. The application provides you with icons that work just like the old activity LEDs and it lets you customize them.

The application works straight out of the box. It comes as a single executable, which you only need to download and run. There is no need to install any additional tools or drivers and you won't notice any significant impact on your computer's performance while it's running.

When launched, the application will add a series of icons in the system tray. Each icon flashes when there is network or hard drive activity. You can also find icons for the Lock keys on your keyboard. Whenever you press the Num, Caps or Scroll-Lock keys, the corresponding icons will change color.

The application lets you choose between different color sets. You can have your icons black and white, red and green or in other color variations. Furthermore, you can enable and disable individual icons, so if you never use Scroll Lock, for example, you won't have to keep an extra icon for no reason.

Other settings include enabling sounds and setting the network activity indicator to react at a network activity of a certain level. addLEDs doesn't come with an actual user interface. Everything can be done through a system of sub-menus, which you can access by right clicking any of the aforementioned icons.

With addLEDs running on your computer, you will always know when there is hard drive or network activity, just by glancing over the system tray.

Pros

You can have activity indicators in the system tray. addLEDs lets you choose between different colors and disable individual icons. The application is lightweight and it doesn't use a significant amount of resources.

Cons

There are no obvious drawbacks to point out.
